Emma Gannon is a blogger, writer, marketer, and author, and her debut non-fiction book for young adults entitled CTRL ALT DELETE: How I Grew Up Online will be published in July 2016.
From being the "voice" of Dove's global social media to consulting on social media strategy for the likes of Heinz, Unilever, and P&G, Emma loves the science behind building a good brand.
She's written for places like the Telegraph, Stylist, Grazia, The Independent, Thought Catalog, The Daily Beast, Huffington Post, Hello Giggles, Time Out and more. She is the former social media editor at both The Debrief and British GLAMOUR.
In 2010, she founded girllostinthecity.com, a popular culture blog, and in the January 2015 issue of Time Out she was named as one of Lena Dunham's "favourite UK women."
Emma is a keen speaker and panellist, and she recently co-founded IRL PANEL, a live panel event hosted at Twitter HQ to bring women together offline and in person, which trended in the UK and reached half a million people on launch night.
In this episode, Emma and I have an honest, open conversation about all the "shoulds" we hear regarding how to live our lives. "Shoulds" about writing, exercise, social media, goal setting, and more. She shares her transition from a full-time job to working for herself, plus the six years of blogging/freelancing she did on the side to make that possible. We discuss finding your voice, putting yourself out there, and the value of taking online relationships offline. It's a fun, vulnerable conversation, and I hope you enjoy it!
