Kristen Bor is the van-dwelling, GoPro toting full-time adventure travel blogger behind Bearfoot Theory.
In 2014, Kristen found herself in a suit and heels working in the halls of Congress in Washington DC. She was eager to spend more time outside but struggled to find the time or the resources to help her plan, like websites that told her where to go, what gear to pack, or how to improve her outdoor skill set. Instead, she found websites that featured pro-athletes hucking themselves off cliffs and kayaking class 5 rapids, and rather than being inspired, she was intimidated. How was a late 20s outdoor bloomer supposed to get their start? And that's how Bearfoot Theory was born. Shortly after, Kristen quit her DC job, traded her heels for hiking boots, and dove head first into the blogging world where she shows everyday people how to live a more adventurous life.
In this episode, Kristen tells the story of quitting her job to become a full-time blogger, complete with details of how much money she saved, the part-time jobs she worked to make it happen, and how she makes her income now. Don't you love when people are honest about money?!
We also discuss how much unsexy work goes into running a travel or adventure website, and we talk through some of the myths and misconceptions that hold people back from exploring the outdoors.
Kristen shares the fears she had when she was first getting started with nature exploring, and assures us that it's totally awesome to start small. Meaning that adventure is still adventure even if it only happens on the weekend; you certainly don't need to quit your job and head off to New Zealand in order to have an incredible time.
I so appreciate Kristen's honesty throughout this episode, and I hope you have fun learning more about her as well!
