Nick Symmonds is an American middle-distance track athlete, 6-time US National Champion, and 2-time Olympian who won the silver medal in the 800 meters at the 2013 World Championships. He's also the CEO of Run Gum, energy gum that's designed to maximize your performance.
In this episode, Nick shares the story of how he first got into running, and many more stories about the 20 years he's spent as a competitive track athlete. We talk about goal setting, setbacks, and why it's crazy to let other people set limits and barriers for you - especially when it comes to age and what you might be considered "too old" to do.
He shares about periods of depression, why we need to own our goals, what drives him to keep competing after all these years, and about the legacy he hopes to leave behind in the sport. We also talk about business - both the business of running and how Nick has worked to brand himself, and also about his company, Run Gum, where he's the CEO.
I've been a big fangirl of Nick's for years, and it was such a treat to have this kind of honest conversation with him. I hope you enjoy it too!
